Kalypso Offshore Energy joined cable owners, operators, developers, and technology leaders from across the global subsea industry at the Submarine Cables Summit 2026, held in Miami on July 6–7.
TAKING THE STAGE: A U.S.-BASED SUBSEA CABLE SERVICE INDUSTRY
Kalypso's Director, Owen Rataj, featured in two sessions across the two-day program — delivering a headline presentation on building a robust U.S.-based subsea cable service industry, and joining the summit's marquee panel on cable security.
The presentation set out Kalypso's blueprint for closing the gap: the Modular Cable Repair Kit (MCRK) — a containerized, vessel-agnostic repair spread that can deploy from a U.S. base in days rather than months; a dedicated U.S. subsea cable O&M hub; America's first Jones Act-compliant cable lay vessel, designed and build-ready; a shift from reactive to predictive, condition-based O&M; and the local supply chains and workforce needed to sustain domestic capability.

ON THE PANEL: CABLE SECURITY IN A RAPIDLY EVOLVING THREAT LANDSCAPE
Kalypso joined the panel discussion “Enhancing Cable Security in a Rapidly Evolving Threat Landscape,” moderated by Martin Connelly of UltramapGlobal, alongside experts from Team Cymru, Angola Cables, FiberSense, and Indeximate. The panel examined route diversity under rising geopolitical pressure, the growing gap between cable deployment and the global repair fleet, and how commercial asset monitoring and national security intelligence can work together to protect subsea infrastructure.
The timing could not be sharper. In the weeks around the summit, the EU unveiled a unified cable-security doctrine backed by €347 million, and AI-driven demand continues to accelerate new trans-Atlantic fiber builds toward U.S. shores. Cable resilience has moved from a technical topic to a matter of national and economic security on both sides of the Atlantic — and repair readiness is where resilience becomes real.
