Houston, Texas and New York, New York – October 20, 2026

Kalypso Offshore Energy, LLC and Offshore Data Center, LLC today announced plans to collaborate on solutions that give offshore gas owners new options for monetizing stranded, underutilized, and undervalued natural-gas resources, while supporting the growing demand for AI compute infrastructure.

PUTTING STRANDED OFFSHORE GAS TO WORK FOR AI COMPUTE – CONNECTED BY KALYPSO'S SUBSEA CABLES

The idea is simple: instead of moving gas to shore, to a power plant, and then to a data center, place power generation and compute next to the resource. The companies will evaluate both new-build facilities and the reuse of existing offshore infrastructure, including selected “idle iron,” for modular edge and inference computing.

KALYPSO'S ROLE: THE CONNECTION

An offshore data center only works if it is connected. Kalypso will lead the subsea cable work packages that tie these facilities to the grid, the network, and shore: fiber-optic, power, and umbilical cable route development, engineering, installation, and connections, together with the repair, operations, and maintenance support that a high-availability facility requires.

“An offshore data center is only as good as the cables that connect it. Low-latency fiber to shore, reliable power connections, and a repair and maintenance capability close to the assets are what turn an offshore platform into usable compute capacity. We are building exactly that capability in the U.S. and beyond, and this collaboration lets us apply it to a new class of offshore infrastructure.”

– Owen Rataj, Director, Kalypso Offshore Energy

A NEW LIFE FOR EXISTING PLATFORMS

Offshore Data Center brings a set of partner technologies to the collaboration, notably patented semi-submersible hull designs expected to reduce hull weight by up to 50% while improving stability, enabling competitive construction along the U.S. Gulf Coast, and patented closed-loop cooling systems designed to significantly reduce the data-center cooling load.

“A significant number of platforms in the Gulf of America are slated for decommissioning even though some may retain useful structural life. Working with operators, regulators, and Kalypso, we plan to evaluate opportunities to place modular data centers on suitable existing assets, create new revenue from offshore resources, and potentially defer certain Asset Retirement Obligation expenditures.”

– Art J. Schroeder, Jr., Founder and CEO, Offshore Data Center

LOOKING AHEAD

The collaboration extends Kalypso's subsea cable services – engineering, installation, repair, and maintenance across fiber-optic, power, and umbilical systems – from offshore wind and offshore energy into a new class of offshore asset. Kalypso's U.S. base, Jones Act-compliant delivery model, and planned East Coast O&M hub give these facilities what they need most once they are operating: a repair capability close to the assets.
